The control boxes in the ADC Theatre are used to control lighting and sound during the show. They are accessed via the lift, or across the roof void (up the ladder from stage to the counterweights gallery, through the Number 10 door, through the patch bay, across the roof void and down a short ladder into the boxes).

The lighting box is located on the PS side of the building with a glass screen separating it from the auditorium. The sound box is located on the OP side of the building and has an open portal to the auditorium. The two boxes are connected and separated from each other by a door.

Accessibility

Being of a certain age, the building and its surroundings provide many challenges which are not easily addressed for a variety of technical and regulatory reasons. One such challenge is the lack of an accessible fire escape route and thus, non-ambulant people regrettably cannot access the control boxes. The lift must not to be used as a fire exit by anyone under any circumstance.
